In an effort to assist homeschooled students in learning more about LaGrange College and the college admission and selection process in general, we will be hosting a special on-campus event for homeschool students and parents on Wednesday, October 30. During this event, students will have the opportunity to attend several classes to help them get a feel for the college experience. In addition, we will have sessions on college admission for homeschooled students and financial aid opportunities.

Because of limited classroom space, we are requesting that students attending classes be in their junior or senior years. Parents and other children are welcome to attend the information sessions. We can accept up to 25 students for this event. However, if there is sufficient demand we will hold an additional day later in the semester.

The event is tentatively scheduled to run from approximately 9:00 am until 1:00 pm.

Please contact the admission office at (800) 593-2885 or e-mail me at [email protected] if you have questions or to make a reservation for the LaGrange College Homeschool Visitation Day Program.

Special Atlanta Opera Performances for Home Schooled Students

Posted Tuesday, January 1, 2026 at 1:06 PM by webteam

The Atlanta Opera Presents The Impresario by W. A. Mozart
In Two Special Performances for Home Schooled Students
Monday, February 25, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. and at 1:00 p.m.

The Atlanta Opera Center
728 West Peachtree Street NW
Atlanta, GA 30308

Synopsis: The scene is Vienna, Austria in October of 1786. The Emperor's favorite opera producer (the Impresario) has been asked to create a new opera for the birthday of the Emperor's son, the Crown Prince. What sounds like a simple request, however, becomes increasingly difficult as the complications begin to mount. Follow the harried Impresario as he contends with competing sopranos, ailing tenors, and a spoiled young Prince who dislikes everything except sheep. All does end happily when the performers as well as the Prince learn the value of cooperation and teamwork.

Featuring the incomparable music of Mozart, The Impresario will introduce your students to opera while giving them a glimpse into the genius of a musical prodigy.

Description: This is a comic opera, 45-minutes long and sung in English. It has been staged for children in grades K-8, though children from 3 years old to 18 years old have attended performances and enjoyed them. Using the same production standards as our mainstage performances at the Fox Theatre, The Impresario features sets, costumes and props from The Atlanta Opera's production shops. Students are given the opportunity to interact with performers after the show to ask questions and learn a bit about what it takes to put on an opera.

Tickets: Admission is $5 for children over age 3 (under age 3 admitted free) and $10 for adults. Each adult will receive a copy of The Atlanta Opera's nationally acclaimed Opera Study Guide with over 30 pages of K-8 curriculum-based activities and information on The Impresario. These study guides contain both pre- and post-performance educational activities. They are written by the Opera's education staff and editors at Craig-Hart Publishing Company, a local publisher of children's educational texts.

Tickets may be purchased in advance by sending a check made payable to The Atlanta Opera to Brenda Pruitt at the Opera's address above. Tickets will be sent along with the Study Guide so that the pre-performance activities can be done before the show to help students prepare for their opera experience. Tickets may also be purchased at the door, subject to availability. Study Guides will be provided as well to those who purchase adult tickets at the door, as all of the activities still have much educational value after having seen the performance.

Directions/Parking: The Atlanta Opera Center is located in Midtown Atlanta on West Peachtree Street between 3rd and 4th Streets. Specific directions and parking suggestions will be sent along with purchased tickets.

Questions? Call Brenda Pruitt, Education Coordinator at 404-881-8883 or send an e-mail to [email protected].

New & Improved

Posted Saturday, May 5, 2026 at 12:18 AM by webmaster

We are in the process of setting up a new and improved announcements page for the CHEC web site. Once fully implemented it will allow the community leaders to enter announcements directly to the web site. This, we hope, will mean more information will be available sooner and remain current.

In addition, we hope to have these additional features working soon:

Our plan is to have all this up and in full swing no later than the start of the Fall Season, 2001. Have a great summer. We'll be working on these and other site improvements in the mean time.
